There are no coincidences
Neal hadn't been in this town for too long, and, he couldn't feel more out of place. He didn't have family here, well, not any that he wanted to see. And his friends were either long gone or somewhere that they weren't showing themselves.
The only real person Neal wanted to see was Emma, and, he was sure she didn't want to see him. All he wanted was to apologise, he didn't care if she was happy with someone else. All he wanted was to tell her that he was sorry and let her know that he had a reason for leaving her, a real one.
He had decided to explore this town more, and, maybe figure out where he was supposed to belong here. Neal kept his hands in the pockets of his jacket as he reached the pavement just outside of Granny's Bed and Breakfast.
Standing there looking around the town, caused Neal to suddenly flash back to a moment when he was still a kid and on the run from the foster system.
It was after yet another foster home had kicked him out, and, he needed to get out of the house before his foster family called his social worker to tell her that they didn't want him anymore. Really how many times could he hear that growing up? The emptiness of the streets were unexpected and quite common for the foster kid who was sent away in the middle of the night.
Coming back out of his thoughts, Neal hadn't even realised he'd started walking. Or that he was about to come across one of the old demons in his life.
As he walked past this 'Sheriff's Station', Neal felt himself knock someone to the ground, and, knelt down to help her pick up her stuff. Looking straight ahead, Neal suddenly saw who it was, and, just looked at them open-mouthed.
